US-based Washington Group International's subsidiary, Washington Enterprises Emirates LLC (WEEL), has won a contract from the Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (Takreer) to perform front-end engineering and design services for a sulphur-handling facility.
The project will be undertaken in the Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company's Ruwais Industrial complex to expand the operation's sulphur-handling capacity in response to the continued growth of the oil, gas and petrochemical market.

Sulphur is a byproduct of the refining process that produces products such as natural gas, LPG, gasoline, diesel fuel and heating oil. Takreer is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc).

In addition to the Abu Dhabi contract, other recent contract susccesses for the company in the oil, gas and petrochemical market include a multimillion-dollar contract to provide design, equipment procurement and construction services for a new sulfur-handling facility in Qatar serving the natural gas processing market.
The company earlier performed the front-end engineering and design for the Qatar project.
