Dubai: talabat, the region’s leading food delivery and grocery platform, is proud to announce that their 24x7 quick-commerce grocery platform, talabat mart, has shifted from paper bags to biodegradable and reusable plastic bags as part of their commitment towards sustainability and providing consumers with environment-friendly options.

In their ongoing efforts to achieve greener and more sustainable operations, talabat mart has now changed their current paper packaging materials to biodegradable plastic bags - which offer a multitude of environmental benefits such as quicker decomposition rates in open environments, compared to other types of plastic. talabat mart now only provides sustainable packaging that can be reused in the future, and consumes four times less energy to produce than paper bags.

Tomaso Rodriguez, Chief Executive Officer of talabat mentioned that the switch to biodegradable packaging is a step towards integrating more eco-friendly ways across talabat’s operations. “At talabat we are extremely dedicated to supporting sustainable operations by aligning our business practices with that of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group and the UAE Vision 2021. Introducing talabat mart’s biodegradable packaging is yet another big step as we pave the road towards a more sustainable way of serving our customers,” he said.

“Additionally, it is our belief that as a company that contributes so much to the daily aspects of our consumers’ lives, we should endeavor to be as environmentally friendly as possible and enable our customers to do the same every day.”

Rodriguez also commented on talabat’s commitment to encourage customers and restaurant partners to reduce the use of plastic cutlery. “talabat has implemented a series of sustainable initiatives, such as the ‘no-cutlery’ default option on food delivery orders, to help reduce unnecessary use of plastic within our ecosystem. Customers who require plastic cutlery would have to notify restaurants as they check out, which resulted in no-cutlery orders increasing from 6.5 per cent to an incredible 62.6 per cent in the span of four months, which is a remarkable feat.”

talabat mart is available through the talabat platform, by downloading the talabat app through iOS Appstore or Google Play.
