Abu Dhabi:

Marine facilities at Shahama Port in Abu Dhabi are to be redeveloped at Shahama water basin and land site to have both sales and service facilities for small marine craft due to growth in marine and water club activities without referring to the cost of development, ADPC said in a statement.

(ADPC) said that Shahama Port will be home to facilities and recreational amenities that both support the community and the activities in the port.

“We see Shahama Port becoming one of the largest one-stop-shops for all leisure boat users in Abu Dhabi. This will revive the area and will add value to the port and surrounding community. Works will involve an upgrade of the Shahama Port water basin and land site, followed by the development of sales and service facilities for small marine craft, marine and water clubhouse activities in the basin area, in addition to commercial, recreational and leisure activities,” said Tamimi.

He added that the first phase of the project has just got underway with expectations to complete Phase 1 early 2014.

“We expect it to be completed in early 2014. When finished, Phase 1 facilities will offer: 100 wet berths for boats up to 55 foot long; 190 dry berth for trailer storage under shades; a large slipway for boats and jet skis; fuelling and retail facilities; two maintenance workshops; and a marina Club House with games room, coffee shops and other amenities,” Al Tamimi continued.

The advantage of Shahama Port is that it is located about 4 kilometres off the main Abu Dhabi- Dubai highway, and it has direct access to all the surrounding residential areas. Public transport links also now support access and traffic to and from Shahama area and port, said Al Tamimi.

Upon completion of this project, Shahama Port will be the largest one-stop shop for leisure boat users, featuring a number of facilities that ADPC will be developing including: dedicated slipways for boats and jet skies, wet and dry berthing facilities for more than 500 boats up to 100ft size, a Marina Clubhouse, picnic areas, restaurants, free car parking areas, security and lifeguard facilities, alongside many others that support the port’s community and will be developed by trusted external partners.

ADPC also owns and manages 11 ports in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi: Khalifa Port, Mina Zayed, Mussaffah Port and five ports in the Western Region.
