Hyundai Kona Electric has made it to the prestigious Guinness World Records for being driven at the highest altitude by an electric car.
The first fully Made-in-India long-range electric SUV was driven to an altitude of 5,731 meters to Sawula Pass in Tibet comfortably breaking the previous record of 5,715.28 meters achieved by the Nio ES80
Commenting on this achievement, Mr. S S Kim, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India said, “Hyundai Kona Electric making it to the prestigious Guinness World Records feat is a very proud moment for everyone.”
Mr. Rishi Nath, Adjudicator, Guinness World Records said, “A new precedent has been set for the record as – Highest Altitude reached in an electric car. I would like to congratulate Hyundai Motor India for having achieved this and setting new benchmark in the annals of history.”
Hyundai says that for the entire duration of the drive, the Kona Electric was charged using the standard portable charger provided along with the vehicle.
The carmaker also claims that there were no performance issues while climbing the peaks, while the car's smart power regeneration system also came in handy while descending from the peaks.
The Hyundai Kona Electric is equipped with a 39.2 kWh battery and offers a range of 452 km on a single charge.
