Cairo: Saudi authorities have warned that crossing flooded valleys is a traffic infringement, punishable by up to SR10,000. The fines were approved by the Saudi government earlier this year.

“Crossing valleys and ravines during their flowing is a grave act that puts life in danger and is a violation slapped with a fine ranging from SR5,000 to 10,000,” the Saudi traffic department said.

The warning comes amid weather forecasts of heavy rainfall in some parts of the kingdom on Tuesday. The National Centre for Meteorology forecast thunderous heavy to moderate rains along with brisk winds and hails on Tuesday resulting in flooded valleys in Saudi Arabia’s south-western regions of Jazan and Assir.

Rain-laden clouds were also forecast over hills of Najran and Al Baha in south-western Saudi Arabia and the holy region of Mecca.
