Cairo: Kuwait plans to replace all foreign employees at government computer departments with citizens this year, according to a local newspaper.

The state Civil Service Commission has instructed different governmental agencies to completely “Kuwaitise” their computer departments in line with employment replacement policy before the start of the new fiscal year in April, Al Anba newspaper reported, citing what it termed as well-informed sources.

The commission has specified the numbers of non-Kuwaiti employees who will be replaced in several government agencies and requested terminating services of expatriates doing administrative and technical jobs, the sources said without giving figures.

Foreigners account for nearly 3.4 million of Kuwait’s over 4.8 million population.

Several state institutions in Kuwait have recently disclosed plans to limit hiring foreigners, prioritising Kuwaitis’ employment.

In recent months, there have been increasing calls in Kuwait for curbing foreigners’ employment to redress a demographic imbalance amid accusations that migrant workers have strained the country’s infrastructure facilities.
