Istanbul: At least nine police officers were injured when a suicide bomber detonated explosives in his car in the southern Turkish province of Mersin on Tuesday,Turkish broadcasters reported.
Television footage showed firemen extinguishing smoking remains of the vehicle on a motorway, some 10 km from the major port city of Mersin on Turkey's Mediterranean coast.
According to CNN Turk, the man detonated the bomb following a police chase at a checkpoint.
NTV quoted the Mersin governor as saying one person was killed and nine officers were wounded in the attack.
Police were not immediately available to comment.
