Muscat: Within 48 hours, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) have arrested an Omani accused in a murder case.
"The police was informed about a body of an Omani citizen that was found in pool of blood in an abandoned house in Rustaq area in Batinah region," a spokesman for the ROP's Public Relations Department said.
"The police found that the deceased had consumed alcohol before being murdered," he added.
Further investigations revealed that the victim, the suspect and a few others had consumed alcohol together when a brawl ensued.
"The murdered citizen was taken to the deserted house and severely beaten up while under the influence of alcohol," the police spokesman further revealed.
According to police, the suspect fled for Duqm town in central Oman after beating the victim to death.
"Thanks to cooperation of residents and citizens in the area we could trace the accused in Duqm," he said, adding that the Duqm police arrested the suspect, whose name police did not reveal.
"Confronted with evidence the accused confessed to his crime," the police said.
The suspect also had scratch marks on his face and chest, which police believe was the result of his fight and struggle with the murdered citizen, whose identity police did not make public.
The police have handed over the suspect to the Public Prosecutor for further action.
