Muscat:The Royal Oman police have arrested an Asian expatriate for a premeditated murder in Ibri, about 270-km north west of Muscat, according to a press release Thursday.

“We were informed about a dead body at a farm in the outskirts of Ibri,” a spokesman for the ROP’s Public Relations Department said. He added that on reaching the site the police officers discovered gun shots on the body of the deceased. “Our investigation led us to the accused, who, under interrogation, confessed that he had shot the victim with a traditional Omani gun,” he added. The accused was handed over to the Public Prosecution for further investigations.

Meanwhile, in the eastern region of the country, the police arrested an unidentified accused for stealing jewellery worth 35,000 Omani riyals from different houses in the area. “We received a number of complaints about the jewellery thefts at night when occupants had gone out during weekends,” he said. Acting on several complaints, the ROP kept a watch in the area and arrested the accused before he could strike at one more house. During questioning by the police the accused revealed that he had sold most of his loot.
