Muscat: Streets in Muscat are shining bright with colourful lights as Oman celebrated the 39th National Day, on Wednesday.

The country’s ruler, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed, who is also the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, presided over the military parade at the Muaskar Shafea’ military parade ground as part of the celebrations.

Meanwhile, art lovers continue to turn up in large numbers to view artists giving final touches to portraits of the Sultan as the nationwide ‘Qaboos Oman’ painting competition continued at the Omani Society for Fine Arts.

Over 150 artists, at three branches of the Society, are busy painting for the ‘Qaboos Oman’ competition. The final short list of six painters in the competition, hosted by BankMuscat, will be announced on Saturday as branches of the Omani Society for Fine Arts in Muscat, Salalah and Buraimi wear a busy look.

“BankMuscat’s participation in this initiative stems from its firm commitment which calls for involvement in national events and achievements realised during the last 39 glorious years of the Sultan’s wise rule,” a spokesperson for the Bank said.

The contest sets in motion a unique celebration conceived by BankMuscat to mark the 39th National Day anniversary.

As part of 39th National Day celebrations, Golden Hornet has brought state-of-the-art three-dimensional technology to Oman.

Sayyid Faisal Bin Turki al Said officially launched the two-day 3D extravaganza, which is being supported by Brand Oman Management Unit, at Muscat City Centre (MCC).

Giving particular emphasis to the active role of the country’s youth, Sayyid Faisal said: “the future charted by His Majesty the Sultan has to be taken forward by the future citizens of Oman.” He praised the efforts of Golden Hornet for unveiling 3D Hologram technology to the citizens of the Sultanate and said technology is the key to future.

The 3-D hologram screening highlights the work of Oman’s important oil and gas sector, National Day felicitations, panoramic scenes of traditional Omani handicrafts and rich marine life and media.
