Muscat: A senior Manpower Ministry official has appealed to Omani jobseekers to register with the local labour departments so that they can be employed with the private sector.
"A number of jobs are available in different economic and service fields with the private sector and we [at the ministry] can get Omani jobseekers placements at these jobs," Mudhafar Bin Said Al Wahaibi, Deputy Director-General of Employment at the Ministry of Manpower, said in a statement released through the official Oman News Agency (ONA) here on Saturday.
He also revealed the number of young Omanis employed in the private sector.
"The number of nationals employed in private sector establishments during July 2008 stood at 5,690," he added.
"Young Omanis who wish to take up employment in the private sector may approach the labour offices in various parts of the Sultanate to register their names," he said.
Giving statistics, he said that the number of degree holders who were employed in the private sector stood at 197 and holders of diplomas at 184. Those with secondary school certificates totalled 2,052.
In addition, 1,665 have been employed in the Muscat Governorate, 414 in the Dhofar Governorate, 1,803 in Batina region, 707 in Dakhiliyah region, 676 in Sharqiyah region and 392 in Al Dhahirah region.
Directives
The number of candidates under training stood at 200 during July 2008.
Citing reasons for the gradual increase in the number of young Omanis employed in the private sector, Al Wahaibi believes that the current economic boom in the country has contributed.
"The young Omanis are also responding to the Royal Directives of His Majesty the Sultan and taking up employment with the private sector as well," he said.
