London: He is Britain's most unlikely world champion. Londoner Bob Cooper returns to the capital today after being named world Rock, Paper, Scissors champion.

The 28-year-old sales manager from Kentish Town is the first Briton to win the title, beating hundreds of competitors to the £3,240 prize in Toronto.

Today he is to show off his trophy at Buckingham Palace and meet Ken Livingstone. He rejected criticisms that the playground favourite is not a real sport. "People think our sport is just about luck, but there is a lot of cunning and training involved in preparing for the championship," he said.

Cooper claims the win makes him one of Britain's most successful sportsmen. "We might not be very good at football and our current rugby team stinks - but at least some of us are still doing it for Britain."
