Manila: Mayon Volcano in Bicol, southern Luzon, exploded before dawn on Wednesday, a government official said.

"It was one of the most powerful explosions of the volcano since July, but alert level for Mayon remained at 2," Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology head Renato
Solidum Jr said in a radio interview.

There were 19 high-frequency volcanic quakes and one low-frequency quake.

Mayon volcano spews ash for the second time in a day on Wednesday at Legazpi, Albay province, southeast of Manila, Philippines.
