Manila: A senior police official was assassinated by suspected leftist guerrillas near his office at eight on Monday morning, in Bicol, southeastern Luzon, a police chief said in a report that reached Manila.

Superintendent Narciso Guarin was about to get off from his car near the headquarters of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Legaspi City, when three armed men trained their assault rifles at him, with the force of the bullets catapulting him inside his car, said PNP Chief Inspector Rolando Esguerra.

After 15 minutes, investigators who rushed to the scene reported that his face was beyond recognition and his head was almost decapitated, Esguerra said.

Meanwhile, three Army men were killed and three others wounded in President Roxas town in North Cotabato in southern Philippines last Sunday, in an attack by the communist New People's Army
