Islamabad: Former military ruler Pervez Musharraf, who stepped down in August 2008 and currently lives abroad, has said that he would return to Pakistan if the people wanted him and if he believed he had enough support to make a contribution.

According to a report by in the local daily Dawn from its correspondent in US, Musharraf made the remarks at a dinner reception near Seattle organised by a group called ‘Friends of Pakistan First'.

"If I have to just go there and join a political party and be involved in accusations and counter accusations … like most of the politicians are doing … I am not interested in that kind of politics," Musharraf was quoted as saying.

In Pakistan, friends of the former president say efforts are underway to organise a political platform for the former ruler so that he could return and play a role in politics.
