Peshawar: Two loud explosions on Sunday shook a northwest Pakistan militant stronghold that has been the frequent target of US missile strikes, witnesses said.

Officials said it was a suspected US missile attack targetting a militant hidout. At least three people were reported killed.

Witnesses heard the blasts and saw plumes of smoke rising near Wana, the main city in South Waziristan tribal region.

Trucks carrying Taliban fighters were seen racing toward the scene. It was not immediately clear if anyone was killed or wounded.

Pakistani news channels blamed American missiles for the blasts, but did not cite their sources.
