Karachi: A Pakistani court has acquitted the widower of slain opposition leader Benazir Bhutto in the murder of a retired judge.

A public prosecutor dismissed the case “due to lack of evidence.''

Zardari was charged in 2002 for his alleged involvement in the murder of Nizam Din and his son, who were both shot dead in Karachi in 1996.

Zardari took control of Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party after her assassination in December last year. The party won last month's election and holds a parliamentary majority.
