Dubai: A suicide bomber attackeda Pakistani military vehicle in the city of Rawalpindi, killing the army's top medical officer and seven others.
The blast happened a week after Pakistan held largely peaceful parliamentary elections and was the first bomb attack outside the violence-plagued northwest since the vote.
The interior ministry of Pakistan has confirmed the causalities, saying top military surgeon Lt. General Mushtaq Ahmad Baig had died in the attack along with his security guard and driver.
Lt. General Baig was the commander of the Army Medical Cor and Principal of the Army Medical College in Rawalpindi.
The blast also destroyed 10 other cars standing at a signal near the Military Hospital.
