Panchkula, Haryana: The father of cricketer Yuvraj Singh and five other relatives have been booked on charges of cheating and conspiracy in a property matter, police said here on Saturday. The economic offences wing of Panchkula district police booked former cricketer Yograj Singh and five relatives and charged them with cheating and conspiracy. No arrests have been made so far, said Superintendent of Police Sandeep Khirwair.

The case against Yograj, his second wife Neena, his mother-in-law Gurmeet Kaur and his three sisters-in-law was registered Saturday following a complaint from Pankaj Mahajan, who said that all of them connived to dupe him of Rs4.6 million (Dh433,000) which he had paid as part instalment for purchase of a house in Sector 12 here.

Refused

The deal, according to the complainant, was struck for the house in December last year for Rs9.6 million. He said that after he paid the first instalment and approached the family in March for payment of the full amount and taking possession, they refused to accept it or transfer the property. Mahajan claimed that the accused even refused to refund the Rs4.6 million deposited by him earlier.

To make matters more complicated, the three sisters-in-law moved court here to claim their share in the property, Mahajan alleged.

Controversy is not new to Yograj, who played one Test match for India in the early 1980s. He has faced police cases in the past also and was even arrested.

Yuvraj Singh, whom Yograj claims to have groomed and coached to become one of the most well-known cricketers in the present generation, is his son from his first marriage.
