Srinagar: Two young men were killed yesterday when police and paramilitary troops fired at people protesting against elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

The deaths took place in Baramulla town, which will see voting on December 7.

Manzoor Ahmad Kumar, a Class 10 student, died on the spot when guards of Congress candidate Mir Mushtaq fired at a mob in Khanpora area.

As the protesters carried the body of the slain youth and marched towards the curfew-bound old town, the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force opened fire, injuring two. One of them, Tanvir Ahmad Shaikh, succumbed to his injuries.
