Monorail projects for 2 Kerala cities

Project offices to be set up in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government on Wednesday signed agreements with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for setting up monorail projects in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode.

The formal agreement was signed at a function attended by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who is the Kerala Monorail Corporation chairman, Speaker G Karthikeyan, Public Works Department Minister VK Ebrahim Kunju, and DMRC chief advisor E Sreedharan.

The chief minister said the monorail project would be undertaken in a time-bound manner. Offices of the new corporation will be set up in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode soon.

Work has already commenced on the Kochi Metro rail project, which is expected to be completed in three years. Kochi is the first Indian city which is not a major metro to have a metro rail project.
