New Delhi: India has called on the Dalai Lama not to engage in anti-China rhetoric that will threaten the relationship between the two budding eastern superpowers.
"Dalai Lama is a religious leader. India will render all the hospitality to him as he is a respectable guest," said external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee.
"He will have full freedom to preach religion in India but he can't conduct any political activity in this country that harms India-China ties."
The Indian government is concerned about maintaining ties with China, while still providing refuge to the exiled Tibetan leader.
