Patna: A woman from Philippines has filed a written complaint with the police alleging she was raped by a youth from Bihar. Acting promptly, the police have arrested the youth and are investigating the case since the matter involved a foreign national.
The youth Gyan Prakash, a businessman who runs his petrol pump business, is accused of developing friendship with a 21-year-old Filipina, inviting her to Bihar and then raping her at a hotel in international tourist city of Bodh Gaya. The woman who is currently working on an American government project in Afghanistan had become friends with the youth on the Internet.
According to the victim, soon after she reached Patna on December 29, the accused, a resident of Mainatard locality in Bihar’s West Champaran district, brought her to Bodh Gaya on a private taxi and stayed in a hotel where she was raped.
“At the hotel, he forced me to establish sexual relationship with him and I was not in a position to register any protest since I was quite terrified,” the victim alleged in her e-mail complaint to the Bihar’s Director General of Police Abhayanand. The email was sent to the state police chief on January 15. She filed her complaint after flying home from Bodh Gaya on January 2.
“I am virtually distressed and torn at the behaviour of the man who turned out to be quite greedy fellow. Not only he forced me to pay all the bills during my travel from Patna to Bodh Gaya, but he also got me buy pants as well as shoes for him,” she alleged.
Acting fast on her complaint, the police arrested the accused and registered a case of rape and cheating against him. “We were able to track him with the help of his IP address on Friday,” the local police superintendent Sunil Nayak told the media on Saturday.
The youth is now being handed to the Gaya police for further investigation. The woman has been asked by the police to send her complaint through the Indian embassy.
During interrogation, the youth confessed having developed intimate contacts with the victim.
Earlier in 2010, a 25-year-old Japanese woman was gang-raped on way from Bodh Gaya to Gaya railway station in Bihar. She had been gang-raped by the auto-driver and four other persons following her in another car. A resident of suburban Tokyo in Japan, the victim was on a tour of Buddhist pilgrim towns in India when she fell victim to lecherous desires.
