Kolkata: At least sixteen people have died in election violence in India's West Bengal state on Sunday.
Many of those injured are in critical condition and the state administration expects the death toll to rise.
Fifteen people were killed in the district of Murshidabad alone. Another died in an attack at Birbhum district.
Officials say most of the deaths were caused by attacks on polling booths or on houses of political party supporters.
