Zuma returns to court for second day

Pietermaritzburg: A South African judge said a ruling on presidential hopeful Jacob Zuma's graft case will be delivered next month.

African National Congress Leader, Zuma returned to court for a second day on Tuesday in an attempt to dismiss a corruption and fraud case against him.

In a statement, Judge Chris Nicholson said, "The court is going to reserve judgment in the main application. The judgment will be given on the 12th of September."

Zuma and his lawyers claim that his prosecution is unlawful and unconstitutional.

If the judge rules in his favour, Zuma will have a clear access to the South African presidency. If not, then Zuma may face trial later this year.

Judge Nicholson said if the case is not dismissed the trial will commence on December 8.

Zuma stands accused along with a French arms company of bribery in a multi-billion-rand (dollar) 1999 arms deal.
The hearings are due to conclude Tuesday.

On Monday, hundreds of Zuma supporters rallied outside the court ahead of the proceedings.
