Tutu calls for peacekeeping deployment in Zimbabwe

Berlin: Archbishop Desmond Tutu has called for an international peacekeeping force to be deployed in Zimbabwe to prevent violence during a presidential run-off next month.

"It would be in everybody's interest to send an international peacekeeping force to Zimbabwe," Tutu said. "That is the only way to make sure no violence will be exerted."

Zimbabwe is due to hold the delayed second round ballot on June 27, when the opposition hopes to oust veteran leader Robert Mugabe.

A first round of elections in March was followed by widespread violence.
