Nairobi: At least three people were killed in ethnic clashes in Nairobi on Sunday in the latest flare up of violence following President Mwai Kibaki's disputed re-election.
"I saw three people dead, killed by pangas (machetes), slashed on the head, cuts on the back and a hand chopped off," said Samuel Oduor, a cameraman.
Another witness, Harold Mukigi, said the attackers belonged to Kibaki's Kikuyu tribe and the victim was a Luo, the tribe of opposition challenger Raila Odinga.
Odinga's opposition party has called for another day of "peaceful rallies" across Kenya in defiance of government ban on rallies.
"We will use each and every means to bring down Kibaki's government," opposition party chairman Henry Kosgey said on Saturday.
The European Union has criticised the demonstrations, which has killed more than 20 people this week and more than 600 since the December 7 elections.
"Mass meetings ... can lead to violence," EU Development Commissioner Louis Michel said.
