Sharjah: A warehouse located in Industrial Area 6 was gutted in a fire that broke out on Monday morning, according to a senior official at Sharjah Civil Defence.
Colonel Waheed Al Serkal, director general of Sharjah Civil Defence, said that nobody was injured but the financial loss is estimated at millions of dirhams because a vast quantity of furniture and other materials were destroyed in the blaze.
The fire took place at 10am in a warehouse belonging to a decoration company, located behind Macro Emirates hypermarket.
All the items stored at the warehouse were completely destroyed which included pieces of wood, foam, sofas and cotton fabrics.
Col. Al Serkal said that it took eight minutes for the Civil Defence team to reach the site where the fire occurred.
"The wall of a labour accommodation located next to the warehouse was mildly affected by the fire and we immediately cordoned the site to ensure that the fire did not spread to nearby areas."
Fire brigades from Samnan, Muwailah and Abu Dhabi Civil Defence rushed to the scene to extinguish the fire, which was brought under control after three hours.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and will be determined after the investigation is conducted by the Sharjah Police Forensic Laboratory.
