Two-year plan will enable Emiratis to get UN experience

Dubai: The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in partnership with the National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority (Tanmia) will provide new job opportunities for UAE nationals.

Dr Ali Bin Abdullah Al Ka'abi, Minister of Labour and Chairman of Tanmia's Board of Trustees, and Vitaly Vaneshelboim, Deputy Executive Director of UNOPS yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding which will enable Emiratis to acquire UN experience through UNOPS.

The MoU outlines a two year plan that will offer UNOPS' Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Programme.

Initially 10 positions will be accommodated by offering three posts at the UNOPS corporate head quarter in Copenhagen, Denmark, four in Dubai and the remaining three will be posted in other regional offices. The programme is sponsored by the UAE government.

UNOPS will provide the identified JPOs with fixed-term contracts as per the programme modality and extend them all the benefits and immunities available as per the host government.

The selected nationals will receive on-the-job training in the relevant departments and learn UN and UNOPS specific procedures and practices.
