Ras Al Khaimah: Police have arrested two men over a hit-and-run incident on Sunday night, which left a five-year-old girl lying dead in a pool of blood, Ras Al Khaimah Police said.

Colonel Abdullah Al Munkis, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department at Ras Al Khaimah Police, said the police operations room received a call from the parents of the girl, identified as H.A.H., at around 10pm. They said their daughter had died after being knocked down by an unidentified speeding car while trying to cross the road to reach her elder brother, who had gone to a shop to buy some food.

A police ambulance took the girl’s body to Saqr Hospital, where doctors confirmed that she had died due to being hit by the car.

Colonel Salem Al Za’abi, Director of Al Ma’amurah police station, said the police stepped up search efforts across the Ma’amurah area where the incident took place.

Police arrested one of the suspects, an Asian man in his thirties. He initially denied he was linked to the crime but later confessed and told police about his partner, of the same nationality, who was also arrested.

The man who was driving the car said he did not see the little girl.

Col Al Munkis urged parents never to let their children play on the road, adding that doing so would put their, as well as other road users’ lives at risk.

“All motorists also need to abide by traffic rules and regulations, particularly the set speed limit, and be focused on the road.”
