Third phase of Dubai bypass opens Friday

Dubai: Motorists driving from the northern emirates to Jebel Ali, Al Ain and Abu Dhabi can now beat traffic congestion as the third phase of the Dubai Bypass Road opens on Friday.

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that construction on the road from the Al Ruwaya Interchange on the Dubai-Al Ain Road to the Jebel Ali-Al Hebab Road is complete.

"The 25-km stretch of the road has six lanes in each direction and is part of the bypass road which starts from the Dubai-Sharjah borders and ends near the Dubai-Abu Dhabi borders providing an alternative route to ease traffic congestion on the Emirates Road," Maitha Obaid Bin Udai, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency.

She said work to expand the existing parts of the bypass road from Sharjah to Al Ruwaya was also underway.

Ease congestion

"The road is being expanded from three to six lanes in each direction," she said.

She added construction work for phase four of the bypass road from the Jebel Ali-Al Hebab Road to the border of Dubai-Abu Dhabi was also underway and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

"Construction of the Dubai Bypass Road is part of the RTA's efforts to develop a new road network to ease traffic congestion in the emirate and to ensure safe and smooth transport for all," said Maitha.
