Dubai: Motorists would be able to use their mobile phones to recharge their Salik accounts later this summer, said a du official.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is working with telecom operators du and etisalat to set up such a system, which would deduct funds from a user's credit card to pay the road toll, said Jamal Bakr, director of product marketing at du.
"We're still in very early discussions with the RTA about Salik," he said. "We hope to offer it by the end of summer." RTA officials were unavailable for comment.
The telecom firms already allow their customers to recharge their mobile accounts by sending an SMS.
