Abu Dhabi: Careless and sleepy drivers caused ten collisions on the Abu Dhabi-Ghuaifat international highway, resulting in the death of 13 people between July 1 and August 11.
Major Ahmad Abdullah Al Shamsi, Director of Tareef highway patrols at Abu Dhabi Police's traffic department said drivers must stop when feeling tired or sleepy and take a break, to avoid risking their lives and the lives of their passengers, especially with the heavy traffic at this time of the year.
Al Shamsi said that tyres in a poor condition are also a main cause of highway accidents, adding that a total of 30 accidents took place in July, causing the death of 8 and injury of 68 people, mostly youth.
In the latest of these deadly accidents, a car rolled over on Saturday, and its passengers were thrown out of the windows.
