Dubai: Mohammad Shafiq, a resident of Dubai, stayed away from work for fear of being fined by the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) despite having a Salik tag pasted on his windscreen.

"I have yet to receive notification of Salik registration via SMS. I bought the Salik tag on June 20 and have been driving in and around Dubai with that tag pasted on my windscreen," Shafiq said.

Shafiq said he turned to Gulf News for questions about Salik after he failed to get a reply from the RTA call centre regarding his Salik account registration.

"I have been trying to get my call through their call centre, but each time I am diverted to an automatic message system that tells me the line is busy. Finally I decided to stay away from work," he said.
