Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has produced a leaflet containing safe-driving tips in foggy conditions as part of an awareness campaign for motorists.

It advises motorists to slow down gradually in dense fog and use low-beam headlights to avoid reflections and avoid speeding.

A senior official said one of the many precautionary measures to be taken is to allow for a sufficient and safe braking distance.

He said motorists should not overtake, even if it seems that the fog is clearing off. "It is imperative to keep at least a two-second interval between vehicles," he said.

"Motorists have to be cautious, particularly at late-night and early-morning hours, when conditions are apt for fog formation. This is particularly relevant now as November witnesses the highest levels of fog, while February and March witness moderate levels of fog that usually form between 4am and 8am. Visibility drops to low levels, warranting extra caution, particularly when driving on highways," he concluded.
