Abu Dhabi: Residents in Al Ruwais in Al Gharbia (Western Region) can have a non-stop drive to Al Ruwais Industrial Area as the Abu Dhabi City Municipality (ADCM) has completed an important road project.
The new interchange on the Abu Dhabi-Al Sila international highway was opened, paving the way for the opening of the project in Al Ruwais Industrial Area, ADCM said. It will serve inbound traffic from Al Ruwais Residential Area and outbound traffic to Al Ruwais Industrial Area.
The Dh242-million project comprises service roads and a 65-metre two-lane bridge with a third lane for inbound and outbound traffic on the interchange.
The project provides a link between the industrial complex and the residential complex at Al Ruwais, allowing free and safe traffic flow to all road users, particularly those working in Al Ruwais Industrial Area or in the residential complex.
Engineer Abdullah Al Shamsi, acting executive director of the municipal infrastructure and assets sector, described the completion and opening of the project as one of the key tasks undertaken by ADCM for improving road networks and increasing the safety of road users. It is part of a drive to widen and improve roads and construct bridges and tunnels on key streets to ease traffic.
Project details
The project comprises four slipway roads extending 2.5 kilometres; and four ring roads extending 1.5 kilometres; besides reconstructing and upgrading Abu Dhabi-Al Sila Road in a sector extending four kilometres; and a one-kilometre bypass road between Al Ruwais Industrial Area and Giathi city, he said.
The project also included reconstruction of roads to serve the installations in the vicinity; construction of a bridge to protect the water lines; shifting and protecting telephone, electricity, irrigation and sewer lines. It also includes integral works related to signals, permanent traffic posts, concrete barriers, side slopes and metal rails.
Additionally, the project entails construction of an interchange to ensure four-way traffic flow and smooth transit from and to Al Ruwais Industrial Area, Al Shamsi said.
"The municipality has completed several projects as part of a comprehensive plan to upgrade the streets in Abu Dhabi, in keeping with the economic development and urban expansion, which pushes up the population in the emirate of Abu Dhabi," he concluded.
