Abu Dhabi: Sa'ed Traffic Systems has decided to reduce the fee for minor accident reports caused by drivers from Dh500 to Dh300 as of January 1.

The reduction does not include accidents that take place before that date.

Sa'ed also approved a fee of Dh50 for the service of accident reports against an unknown party.

Colonel Hussain Ahmad Al Harithi, Chairman of Sa'ed and Director of Traffic Engineering and Road Safety at Abu Dhabi Police's Traffic and Patrols Department, said the decision was based on directives by Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.

He said Shaikh Saif instructed Sa'ed to prepare a public opinion survey on increasing or reducing the company's fees, out of his keenness to reduce the burdens on drivers who cause minor accidents.

Nominal fee

The three-month survey showed that 35 per cent of people wanted the minor accident report fee to be increased, while 65 per cent wanted them decreased from Dh500 to Dh300.

Some people suggested charging a nominal fee of Dh50 for accidents against an unknown party, to draw the attention of drivers to park their cars in a way that does not block traffic flow. The outcomes of the survey were submitted to Shaikh Saif, who approved them and instructed their immediate implementation.
