Man run over in front of Al Ansar Mall

Sharjah: A man was run over by a car in front of Al Ansar Mall on Friday evening, police said.

According to initial reports, the man was injured and taken to hospital. The accident held up the weekend traffic for some time. Police are investigating the incident. "The case is a hit and run," police said.

The stretch of Al Ittihad Road in front of the mall is notorious as many similar incidents have occurred over the years.

Most people who live in the residential towers on the other side of the mall, cross over to shop at Al Ansar. At any time you can see people running across the busy highway, dodging the traffic.

Residents have asked that a pedestrian bridge be built across the road, but there has been nor response from Sharjah Municipality over the years, they said.
