Four in Abu Dhabi hold most expensive car number plates

Abu Dhabi: The city's residents hold the four most expensive car number plates in the world.

All four single digit numbers in category 5 were sold by Abu Dhabi Police at charity auctions.

Number 6, the fourth single digit number in category 5 that was sold for Dh15.3 million on Saturday even-ing, has become the third most expensive number plate in the world, said Lt. Col. Abdul Rahman M. Ali Al Kamali, Director of Administration of Privatisation and Financial Investments at Ministry of Interior, and Abdullah Mattar, Managing Director of Emirates Auction.

Expatriate participation

A young Emirati, who did not want to disclose his name, purchased the number plate.

Following the sale of Number 6, Abu Dhabi Police and Emirates Auction have sold four most expensive number plates in the world, said the officials. The other three single digit numbers, 1, 5 and 7 had already made the world records.

Number 60, the second most sought after number on Saturday's auction, was sold for Dh 3.8 million. Abdul Rahman Abdullah, a Jordanian businessman, purchased the number. The eighth auction on Saturday witnessed more participation of expatriates, said Kamali. An Indian businessman in Abu Dhabi, who did not want to be named, purchased Number 94 for Dh2.35 million.
