Dubai: The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has claimed that the number of complaints against taxi drivers has reduced considerably.
Mansour Rahma Al Falasi, Acting Director of Franchising and Monitoring Department at RTA's Public Transport Agency, said only 14 offences related to reckless driving and misconduct were reported against taxi drivers during the one-week campaign.
"The campaign was launched with the help of 24 volunteers working in different departments of the RTA, who monitored the drivers and their conduct on the road," he added.
The agency launched the campaign aiming at curbing complaints of misconduct against taxi drivers in Dubai.
"The campaign has yielded positive results as reflected in the reduction of the total number of recorded offences against drivers, and the drop in public complaints against drivers," he added.
With taxi drivers now tending to be more responsive to serving passengers, it is observed that there are less passengers waiting for taxis.
Participation of the RTA's female employees in the campaign also made a positive impression on the public and franchise companies alike and contributed to minimising cases of taxi drivers refusing to serve female passengers.
Al Falasi urged the public to call the RTA's complaints number 8009090 to report any misconduct by a taxi driver.
The passenger should take note of the taxi colour and the taxi number written on the side and rear of the taxi before logging in the complaint.
