Ras Al Khaimah: Two Pakistani brothers died and five others of various nationalities sustained serious injuries in a collision involving four vehicles on Shaikh Rashid Street in the Al Kharran area here, moments before iftar on Monday.

Colonel Hassan Rashid Al Braiki, acting Head of the RAK Traffic and Licensing Department, said three children were among the injured.

He said the horrific accident occurred due to the carelessness of an 18-year-old Emirati driver, identified as T.T.

The driver lost control, hit the centre divider and careened into the opposite side of the street.

In the process, he hit another car driven by an unidentified Asian national.

Col Al Braiki said the car driven by the Emirati hit two Pakistani brothers, who died on the spot. They were identified as 19-year-old M.A. Kh and 10-year-old M.A. Kh.

The dead bodies were taken to hospital and were to be delivered to the family later.

Col Al Braiki said two other vehicles rammed into the vehicles from behind, seriously injuring five others.

They were hospitalised. Several others sustained minor injuries and were either treated on the spot or referred to hospital, from where they were discharged after initial treatment.

Col Al Braiki said several police vehicles and ambulances were rushed to the scene immediately after news about the accident came into the Police Operation Room.

The Public Prosecution has initiated an investigation into the incident.
