Al Ain: Construction work at the busiest downtown area here has been causing long traffic jams during peak hours and affecting people going to the main market area in the city.
The Al Ain municipality and traffic police have created several diversions but these are too narrow to accommodate the traffic.
Abdul Kareem, an expatriate driver, said the diversions were poorly designed and were a headache for people in the downtown area.
These diversions have also been contributing to the long traffic jams.
"It's really frustrating to go to downtown," he said adding that the city's other streets are also packed with the traffic.
Most drivers avoid Shaikh Zayed Street due to construction work which has resulted in congestion as traffic is re-routed.
