Sponsorship-based work policy to be re-examined
Abu Dhabi: India proposed to re-examine the sponsorship-based work policy during a labour conference held in Abu Dhabi.
Vayalar Ravi, Federal Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs, said he also suggested extending the labour law to protect housemaids and farm workers.
He was speaking at a press conference held at the Indian Embassy on Tuesday.
He said the UAE has taken major steps in ensuring the welfare of expatriate workers, by introducing salary payment through banks and strict inspections.
“But to rationalise and simplify the instruments for legal entry of workers, sponsorship system has to be re-examined. It may make them more transparent and equitable,'' he said.
