Six papers stopped from going to press
Abu Dhabi: Six vernacular publications, including five dailies and one weekly newspaper, did not print their UAE editions on Thursday, Gulf News has learnt.
The National Media Council (NMC) instructed the printing press to stop printing the titles as the publications did not have printing rights in the UAE.
Four dailies in Malayalam and two other papers in Urdu stopped printing. All were being printed at the same press.
"We do not have any issues with the newspapers. The problem is with printing permission. They had not obtained permission to print these papers in the UAE," a NMC official said.
It is understood the NMC had issued warnings to the papers at the end of a grace period to adjust their legal status as per the law.
