Shaikh Abdullah receives Medal of Honour

Award for fostering UAE-PERU relations

Lima: Peruvian President Alan García has conferred the Medal of Honour of first grade on Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister.

Peruvian Foreign Minister Jose Antonio Garcia decorated Shaikh Abdullah with the order at the Presidential Palace in Lima on Tuesday.

Garcia hoped the visit of Shaikh Abdullah would yield results for the interest of two friendly countries.

Greater cooperation

Highlighting the UAE's investment in his country, the Peruvian head of state hoped for greater cooperation in economy and investment in the future.

Shaikh Abdullah thanked the president of Peru for honouring him, saying his trip would contribute to bring visions of the two friendly nations more closer.

Shaikh Abdullah said Peru could make advantage of the UAE's competitive edge, its strategic geographic location and its prominent place in the world trade map.

The meeting reviewed ways of enhancing bilateral relations and exchanged views on a host of regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Later the UAE and Peru signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) during talks between the two sides.

Signed by Shaikh Abdullah and his Peruvian counterpart, the MOU allows the two countries to hold talks on means of strengthening bilateral bonds and exchanging views on regional and international events.

The Peruvian minister said his country would like to open a general consulate and a trade representation office in Dubai.

Expanded relations

Shaikh Abdullah welcomed the step, saying it would contribute to expand relations in areas of economy, trade and investment.

The two sides also stressed the need to broaden avenues of cooperation in politics, economy, trade, investment, seaports, transport, and agriculture.

Oil and gas sector was at the heart of the talks as Peru is one of the most active natural gas markets in Latin America.
