I reside in sector E18, in Salam Street, Abu Dhabi. About a year ago, an internal road — parallel to this street — was dug up for rerouting utility services.

Since then, the road work has not been completed and the area is being excavated over and over again.

The whole area is not well-maintained, with no warning lights or street lights.

Temporary lights were installed a year ago, but they, too, have slowly vanished. People in the area are at the mercy of the illumination from the signboards of shops.

There are no notice boards mentioning the name of the contractor and we have no emergency contact number to dial.

To add to the agony, we observed that the area was excavated again, a couple of weeks ago. There are no proper barricades around the excavated area and there is no designated area provided for pedestrians who would like to cross the road.

We kindly request the concerned authorities and project coordinators to visit the site and review the safety aspect.

As residents of the area, we all support the renovation of Salam Street, but the same should be done as per internationally accepted standards.

I hope the concerned authorities will take the necessary action.
