Police issue holiday safety guidelines

Dubai: Dubai Police issued safety guidelines for the public during the National Day and Eid Al Adha holidays.

Dubai Police's Preventative Security Department of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will intensify police patrols during both holidays.

Brigadier Abdul Jalil Mahdi, deputy director of the department, called on the public to abide by safety and security rules to maintain happy celebrations and avoid accidents.

He called on beachgoers and those planning to go on sea trips to check the sea conditions beforehand and inform the operations room or the coast guard about their intended destination to ensure a quick response if emergencies arise.

He also called on swimmers to avoid deep waters, as they may get caught in sudden currents. He called on families to keep watchful eyes on children especially as they play on the beaches.

He said there are sea rescue boats on both Al Mamzar and Jumeirah beaches.

Brigadier Mahdi said a beach security team will also be present on the beaches to prevent and catch anyone wandering on the beaches to stare at or harass swimmers.

Brigadier Mahdi also activated the anti-beggars unit who will crack down on beggars who take advantage of the holidays.

He said there are well- known organisations that take donations and give them to needy people, but begging is an uncivilised behaviour which spoils the country's image.

He also called on the people who will travel during the upcoming holidays to register with the free home security service through the website www.dubaipolice.gov.ae or by calling on 04-2036324 or 050-8820011 or their nearest police station.
