Abu Dhabi: A partnership between two leading research networks at Khalifa University is intended to attract the UAE’s best minds to research and support education exchanges.

Internet 2, a member-owned advanced technology community, and Ankabut, the UAE’s advanced national research and education network, have announced a formal partnership to support each other’s developed network infrastructures.

“Internet 2 is an international leader in advanced technology. We are ready to be a full partner and jointly pave the way to develop an advanced infrastructure and services for our members,” said Fahim Al Nuaimi, CEO of Ankabut.

Internet 2 and Ankabut will explore various opportunities with each other to design high-speed interconnects between each other’s advanced networks, serving the needs of researchers and educators.

Additionally, the partnership will help in creating an open access environment between the US and Ankabut participant researchers and educators to share data and knowledge.

This is not the first initiative by Ankabut to enhance the education and research resources available.

“Ankabut has also played a significant role in the research and scientific development in the UAE and contributes to the international knowledge-based economy currently being pursued by the government, as part of its UAE vision 2021.

“Our partnership will increase collaboration with international institutions,” Al Nuaimi said.

Ankabut also highlighted the importance of scientific research by establishing the eFada project, which means ‘benefit’ in Arabic, almost a year ago to support research and academic innovation by working extensively with nine universities and institutions within the UAE.

“eFada is a very simple page which will help in increasing the power of information and knowledge by providing at least one terabyte of electronic or hard copy resources,” Dr Ahmad Dabbagh, eFada project manager, told Gulf News earlier.

“Students will no longer suffer from spending hours on researching. Through eFada, any member related to the academic and education field will be able to view several options including how many researchers have worked on a certain topic or how many research papers have been conducted by others within the UAE or outside,” Dabbagh added.
