Outpasses for Indians to be issued within four days
Dubai: More than 1,000 amnesty seekers queued up as the 11 dedicated centres set up by the Indian consulate began operating yesterday.
These centres were opened to enable amnesty seekers to submit their application forms. The application forms are then taken to the Indian consulate which serves as a processing unit to issue outpasses.
R.C. Nair, Indian passport consul who was manning the working at one of the centres at the Indian High School auditorium, said that in addition to the consulate staff, volunteers from the Indian Community Welfare Committee have also pitched in.
"Amnesty seekers began queueing up at various centres as early as 8am. We have made sure that we have volunteers speaking Indian languages like Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Tamil so that amnesty seekers can clear their doubts."
According to Nair, the consulate is keeping the Government of India updated on the amnesty.
"The Indian High School will be the point from where the outpass will be delivered to all the Indian amnesty seekers who have applied. Delivery time is three to four days."
