Musaffah paper and carpet factory gutted

Abu Dhabi: A massive fire gutted a paper and carpet factory in Musaffah on Saturday evening, Civil Defence officials said.

"The fire broke out at the Abu Dhabi Paper and Carpet Factory around 5.40 pm and we are still trying to control it", a civil defence official told Gulf News from the site. Over nine fire fighting units, military and rescue officials were still putting out the fire as the newspaper went to press.

The factory is located in the Industrial area in Sanayya, close to Al Jaber Establishment.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. "Authorities will investigate the cause of the fire", the official said, adding that fire has consumed a large area. "It is too early to give further details about the extend of damage but it is similar to the fire that happened in Mina area in May."

No one has been injured, confirmed an official of the rescue department.
